Meet Bob Dowdell

Bob Dowdell is one of the members of our kidney support group. He just completed a successful kidney transplant on January 29 of this year at the prestigious Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. Bob lost one of his kidneys to cancer over 30 years ago, and his remaining kidney was failing. He was months away from needing to start dialysis treatment when he found a living donor and was able to schedule a “preemptive” transplant before actually starting dialysis.

Bob is now home from the hospital with a fully-functioning kidney and recovering well. In fact, Bob introduced his donor to our support group at the last meeting. So we had a chance to hear both perspectives on kidney transplantation — from the recipient’s point of view and the donor’s..

In the course of his own journey in pursuing a kidney transplant, Bob did a lot of personal research and learned a great deal about kidney treatment and the transplant process. That included meeting with Dr. Mark Wedel, author of an excellent book about kidney transplantation, and himself a transplant recipient. I’m telling you all this because Bob Dowdell has developed his own blogsite as part of his experience pursuing kidney transplantation. That blogsite includes much good information that I can’t duplicate, so I am providing a link to Bob’s site on our website, with his permission and encouragement. . By taking advantage of Bob’s excellent work in developing his site, I am able to provide more useful information on our site to those who want to learn about the kidney transplantation process. Bob’s site includes several chapters from Dr. Wedel’s book, used there with Dr. Wedel’s permission.

Please take time to view Bob Dowdell’s site at https://bobdowdellkidney.blogspot.com/. I think you will find it very informative. Nancy and I are very happy that he had a successful experience with his own transplant, and offer our thanks to Bob for allowing us to make use of his blog in this way.
